The Privileged Species
Are humans the accidental products of a blind and uncaring universe? Or are they the beneficiaries of a cosmic order that was planned beforehand to help them flourish? The Privileged Species is a 33-minute documentary by Discovery Institute that explores growing evidence from physics, chemistry, biology, and related fields that our universe was designed for large multi-cellular beings like ourselves. Featuring geneticist and author Michael Denton, the documentary investigates the special properties of carbon, water, and oxygen that make human life and the life of other organisms possible, and it explores some of the unique features of humans that make us a truly privileged species.

10^40, 10^65, 10^77, all three huge numbers certainly make it sound like it would be impossible to create life, let alone intelligent life by a series of spontaneous random mutations. Scientists instinctively like Darwinian evolution as it gives them apparent control over the process modelling the World. Admitting that there may be a God providing information to the development of life is anathema to the Scientists. The bias against intelligent design is exactly like the opposition to the theory of CO2 causing catastrophic Global Warming (or Climate Change). Evolution and CAGW theory have assumed the position of religions within science. Far from a battle between science and religion, we are witnessing a conflict of religions in science, exactly parallel to the conflict between Christianity and Islam. In the long run the way to the truth, invariably seems to lie right on the path to God. As someone once said, " I am the way, the truth, and the life".
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done video, but the conclusion is a non-sequitur. It would be very surprising indeed if we found ourselves alive in a universe that was nowhere conducive to life.
ReplyDeleteThere is a great deal of evidence that we live inside a big bang remnant. How or why the big bang began is speculative. The speculation of god has zero explanatory value because there are, in principle, an unlimited number of such speculations that could be made.
The video is just a repackaging of the argument from incredulity, an argument from ignorance, the god of the gaps.
